Joanna and the Acrobatiks + Special Guests

You may recall a post I wrote a few months back featuring jazz singer Joanna Borromeo and the Acrobatiks. Well, I was given another opportunity to capture a special event held in the Beat Niq this past week with special guests Andrew Stewart (Bass) and Trevor Falls (Drums). Enjoy.

The Rodeo – Calgary Stampede

The last Grand Stand show I was at was the chuck wagon races in 2009. I remember it as a photo I took ended up in Avenue magazine. Thanks to a friend and his brother, I was able to enjoy the rodeo the year. At first, the shear distance from the field seemed rather daunting. After all, only having a 70-200mm lens one can zoom only so far. Being up in section 513 seemed like lightyears away from the action. Nevertheless I took advantage of the height and while those photographers right next to the field were up close, I’d be their eye in the sky.

The Midway – Calgary Stampede

I’m not the biggest cowboy in Calgary, that’s for sure. In fact, I probably only visit the grounds once every other year. The funny thing is, after watching Adventureland a few days ago I was oddly inspired to revisit the Midway. It’s so incredibly retro with all the games, and colors. I almost thought I traveled back in time to the early 80’s.

I don’t often talk about food on this site, but cooking is easily my second favorite passion. Not great, but always looking to try new things. After having blueberries at my folks place for dessert one evening; I realized that I have never tried to make a proper dessert. Never, not once. Seems odd as I’ve got a sweet tooth. Well, we’re going to try that very, very soon and it’s going to be a blueberry dessert… maybe a tart of some kind.

Where am I?
