36/365 – Barcelona?

February 5th, 2012 § 0

I’ve been considerably fortunate to travel to Europe twice in as many years. And while there is just a ton I haven’t seen yet (I’d have to move there* to really get to know it properly), I may be pushing it trying for a 3 for 3. I mean, having one’s brother live in London just makes things that much easier. And a plus that he can actually speak Spanish. Yes, yes Ryan, I would try to actually talk to people even with you there. I’m torn though as I may have to put it off a year.

Not to say all travel is off the table this year. I still need to do some. Sheesh, I haven’t rid myself of the travel bug since last year. I just may have to play it by ear for the time being.

35/365 – Kim

I’ve met a ton of people in the last few years. Most of them via Twitter, which frankly is unfathomable to me. Of all the folks I hang out with in the course of a week, month or year (outside of work/family)… 90% of them I met them via Twitter or friends of folks I met on Twitter. Not to say I abandoned the previous folk (ummm… yeah) but seriously. It’s kind of scary how one small tool (in the beginning) that not 10 years ago didn’t exist is such a huge connecting point in terms of how I meet like-minded and often amazing people. I only can imagine how my kids will connect with people (speculative on the fact I’m currently single and obviously kids are waaaaay out there). One of those amazing individuals is Kim whom I met through Ian Harding (@socoaddict) whom I met via Faby (@lydyzze) whom I met because I drooled over her 70-200mm lens she used during a Stampede parade in 2009.

So… Kim and I, with Ian as BTS photographer and reflector guru (and amazing cow photographer, just ask him) met up and headed out to find to one of my favorite spots to take shots. Every photog has one, admit it. And well, 1.5hrs later… I got more than I could’ve asked for. These are just a sample of the awesomesauce that was the shoot.

And yes, these were taking just 7 hours ago.

Here’s a tip for all you wanna-be 365er’s. Make sure your lens is clean before you drive all the way to your spot, take a couple long exposures, drive all the way home, download your photo and realize the long exposures generated massive dust spots. Oh yeah, pro here. This isn’t that shot, but it’s representative of what’s going on in my brain these days which I attribute to not checking the basics before shooting.
